Schiphol renewed its brand identity to offer travelers more clarity and recognition. The new style with the orange line, the circle containing ‘AMS’, and the slogan ‘Today is the day’ is part of a broader modernization program through which the airport is investing in quality and future-proofing.

Koodin was asked to collaborate on the digital translation of this renewal. All web applications, including Flights, Parking, My Schiphol, Privium, and Retail, had to be adapted to the new corporate identity within a short period, without disrupting ongoing processes.

The main challenges

The challenge lay in the scale and complexity of the digital landscape. Schiphol has dozens of applications managed by different teams. Some of them worked with outdated code and did not use the central design system, or only used it partially.

The goal was to rebrand all digital channels according to the new brand style, renew the underlying components, and at the same time maintain the stability of the existing environment. Consistency, speed, and minimal impact on operational processes were key.

The solution

The rebranding team consisted of frontend developers, UX and visual designers, a scrum master, and a product owner. They worked together on the technical and visual implementation of the new corporate identity across all digital channels.

The approach consisted of three phases:

  1. Replacing legacy – phasing out old components and implementing elements from the design system.
Revising and rebranding the design system – translating the new visual identity, including brand elements such as the orange line and the ‘AMS’ circle, into digital components and applying them organization-wide.

  2. Optimizing and implementing – rebranding remaining applications, fixing bugs, and realizing the new homepage.

Thanks to clear communication and tight coordination with the various app teams, progress remained high. The technical choices limited the impact on ongoing processes and guaranteed stability and quality.

The result

In a short period, Schiphol received a refreshed digital look. All applications have been aligned with the new brand identity, making the interfaces cleaner and more recognizable.

The design system has been cleaned up and made future-proof, allowing new applications to be added easily. The collaboration between teams was efficient and transparent, enabling the project to be completed within the set schedule.

The renewed digital environment contributes to Schiphol’s ambition: an airport that is ready for the future, with clarity, peace, and recognition as its starting points.
